Over the past 25 years, Peninsula has been making waves in the marine fuel industry, with sustainability at the forefront of our endeavours. Backed by undeniable evidence, the world is warming, which is why we understand the importance and urgency of making changes, now; before it is too late.
The biofuel market is still developing. There are new products being produced and tested on a regular basis in an attempt to create more sustainable options. First-generation biofuels have been widely used, and have contributed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting renewable energy sources. However, they also have limitations, such as competition with food crops for land, leading to deforestation and lack of habitat for endangered species, and damage to ancient indigenous lands. Therefore, there is ongoing research and development focused on advancing second and third-generation biofuels that utilise non-food feedstocks and offer enhanced sustainability benefits.
With numerous potential future fuels on the horizon, achieving zero emissions is as much dependent on the accessibility of the next-generation fuels as it is on the propulsion systems they drive. We made it our primary objective to offer a range of cleaner energy solutions and uphold our responsibility to the environment. Utilising our established network and extensive global presence in physical supply, we are committed to collaborating with key stakeholders to ensure a reliable supply chain supports the advancement of zero-emission superyachts. This dedication aims to foster a truly sustainable future for the industry. Additionally, we go above and beyond the legal requirements to ensure our existing superyacht fuel supplies are as eco-conscious as possible; with all of our operations, logistics, and supply chain controls allowing the purchase and delivery of fuel well within ISO 8217:2017 specifications.
But now we have taken the next step; we are delighted to announce that Peninsula is officially ISCC EU certified!
The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC), is a prominent certification system and independent initiative that supports sustainable, fully traceable, deforestation-free, and climate-friendly supply chains. Through their certification, they actively contribute to environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable production practices. Their certification encompasses sustainable agricultural biomass, biogenic wastes and residues, non-biological renewable materials, and recycled carbon-based materials.
To ensure that our marine fuels can be fully certified, the ISCC assesses every pair of hands that the product passes through. From farm level to the moment the marine fuel is onboard your superyacht, each company is annually audited in great detail to guarantee they are currently meeting and continue to meet, the required standards and specifications. Once the companies are found to be compliant they are certified and a Proof of Sustainability (PoS) or Sustainability Declaration can then follow the product as it travels through the sustainable value chain.
The health of our oceans is vital, not only to the yachting industry but to the continuation of all species on Earth. Covering over 70% of our planet, our oceans work incredibly hard to help sustain life by being responsible for the production of around 50% of the oxygen in our atmosphere. This is alongside absorbing around 25% of all carbon dioxide emissions, and around 90% of the excess heat these emissions generate.
At Peninsula, we take our responsibility seriously and ensure we do our part to help keep our oceans and planet safe; this is why we have worked to achieve this certification. In being ISCC certified, we are able to supply top-quality marine fuel to the maritime and superyacht industry, with true confidence that it is from a reputable and sustainable background. In addition to this, we work exclusively with second-generation products. Second-generation fuels are typically made from non-edible biomass sources such as agricultural waste, forest residues, or used cooking oils. These feedstocks are often abundant, do not compete with food production, and have lower indirect land-use change impact compared to first-generation biofuels.
As customers of Peninsula, you now have access to some of the best quality, sustainability-certified biofuel available in today’s market. With ISCC taking care of the environmental specification, and Peninsula in charge of the rigorous quality testing, you can have no concerns that the fuel you choose is the best for your superyacht and for the environment. We must all do our bit to ensure the survival of our beautiful planet, and in purchasing superyacht biofuel through Peninsula your carbon emissions will be reduced by up to 90%, in comparison to using first-round fossil fuels.
Peninsula are committed to doing their part in keeping our planet safe, which is why we are proud to demonstrate our commitment through our ISCC EU certification.
